Ceremonies

Graduating BAS and BLS students have two opportunities to celebrate this milestone!

Students are invited to participate in a University College Virtual Recognition of Graduates Ceremony and an In-Person University College Commencement Ceremony at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Graduation and Commencement are two related, but separate processes at the University of Iowa.

  • Graduation is applying for degree, satisfying all degree audit requirements, having your degree conferred, and receiving your diploma.
  • Commencement is the optional in-person celebration and ritual conferring of the degree through a ceremony with other graduates and guests.
  • University College Virtual Recognition of Graduates is the optional online celebration and ritual conferring of BAS and BLS degrees through a pre-recorded ceremony.

University College Virtual Recognition of Graduates

The Virtual Recognition of Graduates (VRG) is a graduation ceremony specifically designed for University College, Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) and Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) online degree students.

In-Person Commencement in Iowa City

University College, BAS & BLS, graduates will join the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for an in-person ceremony at Carver Hawkeye Arena on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City.

SEEKING A STUDENT SPEAKER
University College provides a special opportunity to our BAS and BLS graduates. Speaking at our University College Virtual Recognition of Graduates not only provides a memorable experience but it allows our students to share their journey... their story... their accomplishments!  As an advising team, we feel that it is important to highlight the incredible work of our students. Please consider sharing your path to graduation at the University College Virtual Recognition of Graduates.
