The human relations emphasis area focuses on human development, personality theory, interpersonal and group communication, multiculturalism, professional ethics, and the development of helping skills. It requires 18 semester hours.

The emphasis area requires all of these courses:
- CSED:4194 Interpersonal Effectiveness (3 s.h.)
- CSED:4197 Citizenship in a Multicultural Society (3 s.h.)
- CSED:4199 Counseling for Related Professions (3 s.h.)
And at least three of these courses:
